      Biography

Brad Mitzelfelt is the First District Supervisor for San Bernardino County, California. His district, the largest in the contiguous United States, includes the Mojave Desert cities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Barstow, Hesperia, Needles, Twentynine Palms and Victorville.

His priorities and accomplishments include improving public safety by helping expand the capacity of the County jail system while increasing fire protection, child-predator controls and gang suppression and intervention. He created a sex-offender tracking team within the Sheriffs Department, and he established a National- Award-winning program that identifies and deports illegal alien criminals in county jails in the High Desert. His efforts also resulted in a 50-percent increase to the impending Adelanto Detention Center expansion, which will soon triple its capacity.

Despite the current economic downturn, Supervisor Mitzelfelt has been keeping his recent promises to provide new fire stations in Phelan and Oak Hills, a new library in Phelan, a new County Government Center in Hesperia, an expansion of the Barstow Sheriffs Substation, and the new Veterans Memorial Park in Wrightwood. This, along with his leadership in helping triple the County share of federal road and highway stimulus funds, will help create thousands of local jobs, economic stimulus and infrastructure.

Mr. Mitzelfelt significantly helped establish the recently- opened School of Aviation Technology at the Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville. And he has contributed millions of dollars toward after-school programs to provide youth with anti-gang education and positive role-models along with fun, healthy and educational activities in a safe environment.

Brad was elected to his current four-year term on June 3, 2008. He previously was appointed to the board on January 10, 2007, to fill a vacancy.

Supervisor Mitzelfelt is Chairman of the High Desert Corridor Authority, a joint-powers agency with the County of Los Angeles that is currently planning a future highway between the Antelope and Victor Valleys. He is also Vice President of SANBAG (San Bernardino Associated Governments -- the county transportation commission), and he chairs the Victor Valley Economic Development Authority, a joint powers agency that oversees redevelopment around the former George Air Force Base. He is Vice-Chairman of the Quadstate Local Governments Authority and the Local Agency Formation Commission.

Brad serves on numerous additional governing boards and commissions, including the Public Lands Steering Committee of the National Association of Counties, the California Desert District Advisory Council of the federal Bureau of Land Management, the Inland Empire Economic Recovery Corporation, the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District, the Victor Valley Transit Authority, Inland Empire Health Plan and the Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the San Bernardino County Fair, appointed by former Gov. Pete Wilson, and as a California Seismic Safety Commissioner, appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Mr. Mitzelfelt is a veteran of 10 years of active and reserve military service. He served as a U.S. Marine in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. He is a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and the Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association.

Supervisor Mitzelfelt earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Management from the University of Redlands, and a Certificate in Economic Development Management from the University of California Riverside Extension. He lives in Wrightwood with his wife, Megan, and his son, John.
